The first step to deploying your edge node is installing Barbara OS firmware.
Download firmware
Enter in Barbara PANEL and go to the “OS Images” section in the lateral menu.

Browse and look for your device. You’ll be able to check the last version available in the “OS Version” field. Then press the “Download” icon to save the image, a “.zip” file containing Barbara OS binary files to your computer.
Burn the ISO image
Depending on the device selected you may use an SD Card (Raspberry PI, Advantech UNO-220, etc) or a USB Pendrive (Beelink BT4-Pro, Schneider Harmony P6, etc…).
Use an SD Card in case your device has SD storage.
Use a USB pen drive if your device has an embedded disk.
Using an ISO Images burner application (we will use ETCHER in this guide, you can download it here), just burn the downloaded image on the SD/USB.

This process will take some minutes depending on the device used, once finished, we can proceed to install the firmware in the device.
Install Barbara OS
Once you have Barbara OS image burned in your SD/USB, is the moment to install it on your device.
Depending on your device, the necessary steps are different.
Installation using SD Card
The process is really simple:
- Insert your SD Card into the device.
- Power it ON.
- Wait for the bootup process to finish.
Installation using a USB Pendrive
In this case, we need to change the BIOS configuration, so a keyboard and a display are necessary.
- Enter your device BIOS and change the bootup priority. The device must select the USB Drive as the first option for boot up.
- Insert your USB pen drive into your device and power it on.
- Wait for the bootup process to finish.
- Enter your BIOS again and select your main storage drive as the first option for bootup.
- Again in BIOS, make sure that your device auto restarts when power outage. This option is necessary to make your device recover from a loss of power. In any other case, it should be powered on manually.
Next steps
At this moment your device will have Barbara OS installed, but it is still not registered in Barbara PANEL, so you cannot use it.
In the next step we will proceed to do two basic steps necessary to register the device:
- Get the Barbara Id of your device.
- Establish a network connection.
